About
Hello there, thank you for stopping by. It brings me great happiness to finally be able to sit down and write this long, long paragraph. I'm finally at the last stretch (haha)! It all started in July, it was all but a blurry concept then, but I envisioned hosting a blog/ website (?) to house a small curated collection of illustrations to celebrate Namjoon's 27th. It has been about 2 months since, and alas! Here we are. I am brimming with excitement to share this mini project with you, dear reader! I hope that you will find joy in this little project that my dear friend and I have put together in celebration of Namjoon's 27th birthday on September 12th 2021.
I'd like to dive a little deeper into the reasons behind this project. I wanted to focus on the sceneries that Namjoon captures in his daily life. In many of the pictures that Namjoon shares with us, beautiful sceneries are captured behind him. This is what gives each photo a personal touch; an intentional move on Namjoon’s part to share a specific moment in time with us. As part of the process of reproducing these moments in my own style, I find myself in the exact space and time where the photo was taken. I bask in the mood and atmosphere while imagining what Namjoon was feeling at that point in time. Just like how Namjoon has brought so much colour into my life, I strive to do the same with my illustrations. Every detail was carefully planned, down to the unique colour palette for each work. Each illustration is truly a labour of love; a cathartic experience.
This project has been in the works for awhile. I often thought about creating a series of illustrations based on the photos that Namjoon has shared with us, especially those filled with vivid colours. These intricate backgrounds seem to depict a story, often leading me to wonder - how was Namjoon feeling then? What was the weather like? What thoughts were running through his mind? Although these pictures only capture a specific moment in time, each picture is an opportunity for us to step into Namjoon’s world. A shared memory is formed through this process. This is what I want to showcase through this mini exhibition, and I hope that we are able to share these little moments in Namjoon’s scenery.
Ending with a quote from an artist who I admire, Georgette Chen has said the following: “Art to me is a labour of love and like such labours expects neither gain nor reward and brings meaning into one’s life.” This quote resonates with me because drawing BTS has brought so much meaning and colour into my life; there is no other phrase that can truly describe this euphoric feeling. This entire collection was truly a labour of love - although there are only 5 illustrations, each and every one is incredibly significant to me. Just like many others in the fandom, I will never stop being a fan of the 7 boys.
Huge thank you to my friend, forestnamjin (twt) for taking the time to be my listening ear throughout this entire process, and also for proofreading and editing my tiny essays! Thank you for being so supportive and helpful!!! I appreciate you so much!!
